Iyan Ado is a type of pounded yam flour. Pounded yam flour is used to make smooth dough called pounded yam. "Iyan" is the Yoruba word for pounded yam.​​​​​ Pounded yam is a special delicacy and very popular food in West Africa, particularly Nigeria.

 

Pounded yam is a traditional Nigerian dish made from boiled yams that are then pounded into a smooth, doughy consistency, considered a staple in Nigerian cuisine, known for its soft, velvety texture and often served with various soups and stews such as vegetable or egusi soup.


It is a similar to mashed potatoes except that pounded yam is smoother, heavier and tastier.
